Hire senior engineers where they cost less — and employ them legally
The same senior engineer can cost a fraction of a San Francisco rate in Latin America or the Philippines — if you can find them, employ them legally, and manage the time-zone gap. This is the stack teams use to do that.
A hands-on guide to building a distributed engineering team by talent geography: where to find people, how to employ them without a local entity, and how to run the team across time zones.
Independent review. We open each platform's live site by hand — not a catalog dump — and flag the few a bot-wall keeps us from checking. The outbound links are affiliate links; that never changes what makes the list.

Where the talent is
Start with geography. Near-shore (Latin America) keeps you in US business hours; the Philippines gives you the widest cost gap; global vetted marketplaces spin up a whole team fast. Pick the region, then employ them legally (below).

Employ them legally — without a local entity
Once you’ve found someone abroad, an Employer of Record becomes their legal employer for you: contracts, local tax, benefits and compliance, so you don’t open a company in their country. This is the part that turns “a great candidate in another country” into a payable, compliant hire.

Run the team across time zones
With people hired and employed, the last gap is operating across time zones: hours, workload and productivity visibility when you’re not in the same room — or the same day.

How we picked
We started from a broader list and opened every site by hand. Four turned out to be something other than remote-hiring platforms, and one was off-topic for this guide. We left them off:
- HLX (slm.de) — the live site is a travel-booking service (flights & hotel deals), not IT staffing.
- Geeknson — the live site sells board-game tables, not staffing.
- Thebs — the live site is a clothing retailer, not IT services.
- CTE Group — the site is a splash gate with no reachable content, so we couldn’t confirm what it does.
- TSplus — remote-access software (remote desktop) — a tool, not a way to hire or run people, so out of scope here.
